Abel Trout Series Standard Arbor Fly Reel

The Abel Trout TR Series Standard Arbor Fly Reel is really a real classic fly trout reel complete with demonstrated performances. Based on 4 sizes many different finishes and handle options to select from. These envelop fly line sizes #1 to #8. It is an honest classic click-drag trout reel!

The Abel TR Fly Reel is made from excellent aircraft grade aluminum bar stock, each are machined to rigorous tolerances and supplied with a spectacular rosewood handle and plug. The state-of-the-art entirely encased internal click drag system along with two variable hex nuts provides you with a nearly unrestricted range of control of each outgoing as well as incoming click, plus rim management. The result is the top traditional trout and small bass fly fishing reel you will find. These three sizes of fishing reels accommodate lines 1- to 8-weight.

The Trout Series fly reels from Abel have two variable hex nuts that produce tension upon a sheet metal spring an extra spring is included in a pocket on the also provided cordura reel case. This tension is the drag system. Truthfully, it is for the most part all the drag a fly fishing angler needs in a fly reel for most trout fishing occasions. Truly adaptable drag reels around this price range means they are a legitimate alternative. Additionally, you will have to pick previous to moving out because the drag is only ‘adjustable’ from turning these hex nuts with the reel spool removed.

The rosewood plug and handle are the basic, along with the black finish. On the other hand, aluminum handles as well as their creative finishes now are choices at various levels of added expense according to your choices. The finishes offered are far too numerous to list plus feature custom selections. Laser engraving is avalable as well.

Abel Super Series Large Arbor Fly Reel

Abel didn’t create the large arbor fly fishing reel, but their Super Series actually has accomplished the embodiment of that idea; an ideal balance concerning hub dimension plus spool capacity. No wonder these Abel fly reels took the fly fishing industry by storm! The reason why large arbor? Faster line pick up, better drag continuity and less line coil than standard arbor reels. The Abel Super Series fly reels feature a super sized cork drag disk that insures reliable smoothness with an extremely low start up inertia along with the stopping power to beat fish quickly. Both frame and spool are incredibly sturdy and rigid, still lightweight due to their beautifully produced oblong porting.

The guts of all Abel fly fishing reels are their exceptional “Stop-a-Sub” drag system. A large number of fish tend to be lost at either the strike or the net. Abel’s drag system provides basically no atutter or hesitation; therefore more fish are hooked and landed. It’s as smooth as silk for a excellent reason… to increase your odds of landing that fish of a lifetime.

Abel Super Large Arbor Reel Series possess spools that are 100% exchangeable with spools of comparable-size standard Abel Big Game Reels. Example: with a Big Game #3 and Super 8 frame spare spool, you’ve got crafted two clearly different fly fishing reels with various capabilities and capacities. The Abel Super 8 holds an 8-weight line with 200 yards of 20# backing, the perfect system for school stripers, Bonefish and Red fish; while the interchangeable #3 spool holds a 12-weight line plus 250 yards of 30# backing for Sailfish and tarpon among others large speicies.

Abel Creek 2 Large Arbor Fly Reel

A new ultra light classic meant for the 21st century. The Abel Creek 2 Large Arbor Fly Fishing Reel is definitely a very fashionably machined beauty that’s a perfect match for ones finest 4 or 5 weight graphite or even bamboo fly fishing rod. This traditional spring and pawl drag, along with that precise Abel touch, will safeguard the lightest tippets. This amazing fishing reel is a wonderful choice towards all-around light tackle trout sportfishing. You’ll love the stylish, sturdy simplicity from the Creek Fly Fishing Reel.

Abel has produced the Abel Creek Fly fishing reel Series for the last eleven long years, that’s longer than the majority of manufacturers have been established. The Abel Creek Series hasn’t differed much in its amazing classic design or perfect drag system. Just what has changed is just how anglers fish for them, combating sizeable fish on light tippet will mean that your drag system must be flawless. Try out one of these brilliant gems and discover why these are becoming a staple within the Abel reel selection.

Abel has machined the Creek reels for strength and ported it for lightness, this fly fishing reel incorporates a contemporary large arbor style to get speedier retrieve, less line coil, and finer drag continuity. The variable spring and pawl drag is quite light, very simple, as well as incredibly reliable, either wet or dry. An exposed palming rim around the spool enables you to increase the drag “hands-on”, whenever needed. If you spent your childhood years fishing with the sweet tone of the spring and pawl drag, you’ll adore this modern version via a leading manufacturer of flyfishing reels.

Many people like going fishing for different reasons. Some of us need a way to relax and spend some free time away from the buzz of the city, while others just like the idea of catching fish. No matter your personal perspective on fishing, if you are going to practice it, you’ll most surely need equipment.

It is true and proved in time by the testimonies of thousands of expert fishermen that the equipment varies depending on a wide variety of factors, among which the fish species is an important one. Thus, if you go fishing for trout, for example you’ll need special bait, and special lures. Even when fishing for the same species, you may have to use different types of trout fishing lures because of the different environments inhabited by this fresh water fish.

If we think of the rainbow trout that many like to go for, we will see that there are various trout fishing lures designed for the different types of fishing, and considering when and where the activity will take place. Thus, we can divide the fishing lures into three or four groups such as trout spinners, trout baits, and trout flies.

Let’s consider bait trout fishing lures first. Trout bait may consist of live nightcrawlers, bread or dough. It is true that you can also use pieces of food (kernels of corn or marshmallows) put on a treble hook. Trout jigs make another group of trout fishing lures that fishermen rely on. The lures called jigs are made of soft plastic or rubber with hair/feathers attached to them. The drawback of these jigs is risk of snagging rocks, branches and logs.

Trout flies and spinners enjoy good popularity as well. In the case of flies you can use almost any type of insect you can find near the fishing area but dry flies, wet flies, nymphs and streamers are even better solutions. The most important thing in using flies is to make sure you match the hatch. Last but not least, spinners make another viable option. Read recommendations if you are not sure whether they are good for trout or not, because quality equipment items also include some usage instructions too.

When we think of antique fishing lures, we often imagine the tools that our forfathers must have used for fishing. Yet, some people collect antique fishing lures and even use them from time to time. What distinguishes new models from older ones is that modern lures have a sleekness and a luster that make them a lot more similar to live bait. In fact the word that best describes antique fishing lures is stiffness. They also try to replicate a partial look of the insects used in fishing.

There are interesting stories to tell about some of the antique fishing lures you use or collect. Normally, classic lures will work for almost any type of fish, with some exceptions due to variation, species and habitat. There is rather little information on antique fishing lures, given the fact that new models receive most of the attention.

Although a different terminology is used for antique fishing lures, classic or old models are still available with some stores. Internet sites and some auction houses may be the right places to visit for such acquisitions. The models, the prices and the availability vary from store to store, but if you are keen on finding precisely an older model, you may get it after a persistent search. Sometimes you can get certain antique models in modern shops together with recent designs, either for comparison or just for the sake of diversity. You can also get the information about the places where such lures can be bought from other hobbists.

If you search the Internet for antique fishing lures, you may also come across some very interesting materials on the history of fishing, the evolution of fishing gear and the tradition of the manufacturers. You can also find books and guides, collectors’ information as well as specialized publications such as fishing magazines.

Some antique fishing lures are sold for small fortunes, but there are buyers for them despite the very high costs. These lures are the ones that have been carefully put to rest for far more than eighty years in mature collections and are just now seeing the light of day. These lures are really expensive, somewhere in the area of $1,000 to $5,000. They usually end up in the possession of passionate collectors who belong to exclusive groups. From time to time such select groups receive new members in the forms of collectors with experience and something to share with the rest.

The water is like glass and all is quiet around you. Next to you in the boat is a cooler filled with your favorite beverage (whether it’s beer or Pepsi is up to you!). As you approach your favorite hole, you pick up your rod and tie on a surface lure. You cast your line toward the shore and present your topwater offering.

All of a sudden, the water explodes and you are in the battle of your life with a lunker largemouth! He feels like he goes maybe 3 or 4 pounds. As you get him boat side, you reach down and lift him out of the water. Larger than you expected, around 5 pounds! You turn and drop your prize into the live well and prepare for the next cast…

The thrill of topwater bass fishing is addictive. There is a BIG difference between catching that elusive largemouth off the bottom, from the middle or from the surface. Topwater bass fishing is a more visual experience than other types of fishing. There are specific types of rods and lures for topwater bass fishing.

Rods

Most anglers will tell you that a 6 to 6 ½ foot rod with a medium action will suffice. If the action of the rod is too stiff, you will yank your bait right out of the fish’s mouth when you set the hook. A medium action rod is the best fit for topwater bass fishing.

These rods are available in a price range of about $20 to over $200. Do you need to spend a bunch of money on a rod? Regardless of the price tag, medium action is medium action. On the other hand, if you go with a $25 rod, you can expect $25 worth of performance. Chose a rod somewhere in the middle price range and you won’t go wrong.

Lures

When it comes to lures, there are a great many to choose from. Here is a list of the top ten that I have had success with:

1. Heddon’s Zara Spook.

2. Custom Bait’s Senko.

3. Yum’s Floating Worm (with a Texas style rig).

4. Zoom’s Superfluke.

5. Heddon’s Torpedo.

6. Lazer Eye’s Buzzbait

7. Smithwick’s Stick Bait aka Hard Jerk Bait.

8. Rebel’s Pop-R bait.

9. Snag Proof’s Tournament Frog.

10. Any spinner bait. These are manufactured by numerous companies.

All these lures have their own unique presentations. When presented properly, these baits are historically known to produce quality bass. This is true across regional boundaries, weather conditions and water tempuratures.

A big tip

Now you have the rod and the lures you need for topwater bass fishing, there is one more thing you should know. Here it is: Since topwater fishing is a visual type of fishing, most anglers will set the hook too soon and jerk the lure right out of the fish’s mouth. To prevent this, do NOT set the hook immediately when you see the strike! Wait a second, reel in some slack and when you feel the pressure of the bass on the line, THEN set the hook. You will boat more lunkers that way and be a much happier fisherman to boot.
